The next time you visit the Mechanical Turk Requester home page or login to your Requester account, it’s likely you may notice a change in the navigation—specifically, the addition of a new tab titled “Create” and a simplified process for creating projects and launching new batches from existing projects.
Creating a New Project
From “Create”, we help you get started with new projects by providing new sample templates for the most common use cases. You can initiate a new project by selecting your use case from the available list of options under the “Start a New Project” section. As you click on each use case, you'll see a sample template appear in the view pane on the right. In the example below, I’ve selected the image moderation use case and a sample image moderation template is shown.
Once you've selected your use case and you’re ready to move forward in customizing your new project, click the “Create Project” button pictured in the lower right of the image above. For all use cases except categorization, clicking on “Create Project” will direct you to a new page titled “Edit Project” where you can set your HIT properties and design your layout. If you selected Categorization, the Cat App makes it even easier to put work into Mechanical Turk.
After you enter your project properties (such as name and keywords), you can customize your HIT design. Please note that the sample template for your use case is presented as the default design layout under “Design Layout” (pictured below). You have the ability to customize your layout to meet your requirements. To edit the HTML, click on the “Edit HTML Source.” After you finish editing, you will be directed back to the “Create” page and your project will appear in your list of existing projects.
Creating a Batch from an Existing Project
Now that your project is created, you can easily publish a batch of HITs for Workers. Access the “Use an Existing Project” section on the “Create” page to get started. To view your existing projects more easily, minimize the “Start a Project” section by clicking the plus/minus button on the right side of the section header (see below).
To create a batch from your list of existing projects, click the “New Batch” button next to the appropriate project (pictured above). If you would like to make edits to your project before launching a new batch, click “Edit” to make changes to the HIT properties or design layout.
After clicking “New Batch”, you will be prompted to upload your .csv file with the variables specified in your project. (You specified them when you edited the HIT HTML during project creation.) For example, if I am looking to launch my image moderation project, I would upload a .csv file including the URLs of the images that I need moderated in each HIT.
Once you've successfully uploaded your data, preview your HITs to make sure that everything appears correctly, and publish your batch.
Thank you and we hope that you find the new “Create” page helpful.
